The Mighty Expo

September 15th was the Hunting and Fishing Expo here in Casper. When Ryan told me about it, I had no doubt that we would be going, but what I didn't believe was his claim that it was totally kid oriented. Boy was I wrong!

They had fly fishing sections where kids (and adults) could practice their casting. The end of the line had a magnet attached so you could "catch" something at the other end. Ryan tried to convince me to step up for a lesson, but I won't lie, I was too embarrassed.

They were giving out fishing rods for free to the kiddos. They created a moat for canoeing lessons/etiquette. They had hunting dog demonstrations, tons of educational booths, craw fish "fishing", animal pelt identification, shooting lessons, and lots of other things. It was way fun! Whereas the expos back home are pretty much nothing but vendors trying to sell their products, this whole experience is geared towards education. It was really cool.

Here is Pierscen at the craw fish tank. (Nice free advertising for Sportsman's. You're welcome guys.) They are nocturnal feeders, so I don't know if anyone was actually successful in catching one, but it was fun to watch the kids dunk their lines with bits of hot dog on the end into the tank, bouncing them in front of and on top of the little creatures in hopes that they would grab on.

Pierscen's favorite booth was the bear tent. This bear was a "no touching" specimen, but it was all hands on inside the tent.

Little P loved grabbing onto the fur, checking out the skulls, and sizing up the paws and claws. The idea of running into one of these guys in the wild is pretty intimidating.

Pierscen didn't think so though! He loved getting up close and personal with this guy.

And after all of that, he still wanted more! This is Pierscen saying, "Give me a hug!"

After the bear tent we went inside the Casper Events Center to check out the other booths. P starting getting tired so he lost a lot of his earlier enthusiasm, but it was still pretty cute. Below he is sporting his "Junior Game Warden" badge.

We picked up a couple extra badges for Nicia's kids since they were coming up later that afternoon for round one of the bathroom rehaul. They sure missed out!
