Memorial Day at Tent Rock

For Memorial Day we decided to go try out the Tent Rocks hike. It was on my bucket list of places to visit here and I offered to even go camping over the weekend and then hike it, but when Ryan looked into it, it turns out that Tent Rocks is actually quite small and the entire hike is only a couple miles. So we decided to just head up on Monday. We left bright and early so we could be to the booth when it opened around 7. I think we were the second car in the parking lot.

It was a gorgeous day. Absolutely perfect weather for hiking. The kids did awesome. Devry honestly could have done the entire thing herself. I just carried her for parts of the way because she was so slow! Haha! And Ryan really wanted to get back to play volleyball around 11. (The drive was about 1.5 hours to get there. Yet another reason we wanted to get there early.) And most of all, it's not so hot in the morning! Most of this post doesn't require any commentary, so enjoy the pictures!

The rock formations were really neat. Sometimes the path was nice and wide and other times it was quite narrow through these canyons. Reminded me a lot of hiking the Subway in Zions. And check out all the layers in the rocks! Very cool.

The kids found a cool caterpillar and that was one of the things that kept the kids motivated to keep going (both up and down). Let's find another caterpillar!

Isn't it awesome?!

This was the only part that had me nervous. There were some pretty big drop offs and Devry wanted to do it all herself. Ah!

Behold! The famous Tent Rocks!

It did have a pretty great view. :)

We had a really enjoyable trip. The kids were great. They loved the hike. I'm glad they are fun, outdoorsy kids who like to move and explore.

We made it back in time for volleyball. In fact, I was really grateful that Ryan insisted on getting up so early to do the hike because when we got back to the parking lot, there was literally not a single space left. There were Forest Rangers out directing traffic. And when we passed the entrance booth, there were 20 cars waiting in line to get in. Yes, it was hard getting up that early, but definitely worth it!
