Projects

Here's a couple projects we recently completed, one small and one big.

To start, we put up a gate at the top of the stairs. We have had one at the bottom of the stairs that we had to climb over every day, but it wasn't steady and it was ruining the carpet. I love this gate. It has been wonderful.

The big project was building Pierscen a loft bed. There were a few reasons for this one. One, who doesn't love loft beds? We knew Pierscen would like it, it would open a lot of play space in his room, and it would allow us to switch Pierscen's current bed over to Devry's room so we could get her out of the crib.

A friend from Casper posted a loft bed that she built following a DIY blog. We asked if she liked it, she said yes, so we set to work. The boys bought the wood and started working right away. Then we had to put it on hold for a little bit while Ryan did research on belt sanders and order one.

Once we had the belt sander, the boys did the sanding and then it was my turn. I took over with the staining and finishing coats. Talk about time consuming! I did one coat of stain, but 3 coats of the finish. I spent pretty much all day every day for several days to get it done. It hurt my back like crazy and at the end of the week, my back decided it was done. Sciatica pain kicked in big time. That was the end of my running/working out, but we got the bed done! Here's some pictures of the process...

Before assembly could start, we had to move Pierscen's bed over to Devry's room. We shoved the crib in the corner just for now. This whole thing was a big surprise to Devry, but she was very excited about it.

The last thing that needed to happen was to build the platform. By pure luck it was the exact right height to sit on the bumper of the car so I could easily put the top coat on it.

Once that was done, it was set up time! Success!!! The bed looks amazing. Pierscen LOVES it! And it's incredible how much room it has opened up.

It was a lot of work, but was absolutely worth it. I am thankful to have such a handy husband that can make projects like this possible. And it's wonderful to have P work alongside his dad. It's pretty special. Love these boys.
