Impromptu Trip

On October 16th, Ryan reached his 6 month mark with the health department. Know what that means? He can now take time off!

Ryan wanted to make a trip to Utah for the weekend. I had just been there 3 weeks ago, but Ryan hasn't been back to see his family since the little guy had his surgery, and he really didn't get to see much of them then. We are planning on going out for Thanksgiving, all depending on weather, but Ryan still wanted to make it out before then. We don't want to be strangers.

Ryan requested that following Monday off so we could make the trip. It takes about 7 hours each direction. Ryan was able to take a half day on Friday, so we were able to hit to road around 1 pm.

We got to Utah around 8 pm. Even though P was tired, we went to my parents first. They had no idea we were coming. I tried to convince Ryan to surprise his family too, but since we were staying with them, he thought we should probably let them know we were coming.

When we pulled up, my mom just happened to be coming outside. She was shocked and thrilled. It was awesome to surprise them. We spent an hour or so there and then headed to Ryan's parents for the night.

Saturday morning, Ryan helped his dad with cars and running errands. Ellen was out at her dad's helping for the first part of the morning. Around lunch time, we headed up to Cabelas for lunch where we met up with mom. Ryan and I have a bunch of Cabelas point to use and we love to use them for their elk sandwiches and fries. DELICIOUS! So if we are going to Utah, we are going to Cabelas. Besides the sandwiches, we knew Pierscen would love fishes and animals.

Haha, he looks a little concerned, doesn't he?

After Cabelas, we drove up to the new Scheels place in South Jordan to see Jessica and Kristopher.

Scheels is like a Big 5/Garts Sports, but with more hunting stuff too. It's set up like a mall. I am not a mall fan, so I didn't love it, but it had some fun photo ops.

I sent out a few of these skunk pictures and a lot of people freaked. Hahaha. Yes, it is a real skunk. But no, it's not alive any more. What kind of mother would I be? Come on now!

Sunday morning we went to Sacrament meeting with Ryan's parents. P was really tired, but he was pretty entertaining.

Following Sacrament meeting, we went to our old ward for Sacrament meeting to see our old friends. I didn't realize how much I missed that ward. We had such amazing friends and neighbors.

That evening we had dinner with Ryan's family. The kids had a lot of fun playing together. Sure wish P had cousins closer! (Or we were closer!)

After dinner, we went back to my parents house for our annual pumpkin carving contest. The theme this year was super heros. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures, but it was a lot of fun. We had Megamind, Incredibles, Spiderman, Hulk, Avengers, Etc. Everyone did a great job.

Monday before we left, we went to Mi Ranchitos with both parents for lunch. Cabelas elk sandwich and Mi Ranchito: Utah musts. :) It was awesome. I am glad we were able to go out with both parents.

It was a great trip. Short, but sweet. It was fun to surprise my side of the family and it was great for Ryan to see his side of the family too. The weather was perfect and Pierscen traveled like a champ. That drive was so much more enjoyable with Ryan there. :)

Can't wait to go out again. Pray for good weather for Thanksgiving!
