Christmas 2016

The Christmas post! Finally!

Christmas this year was on Sunday, which I love. Makes it pretty special! The kids were up bright and early, as always. This is mostly a picture post... so here we go.

Kids going through their stockings:

Devry's big gift from Santa was a stroller for her birthday baby doll. She was so excited!

Pierscen received some pretty awesome gifts: A temple picture from my mom that includes all the cousins standing in front of the Provo City Center temple as well as the words to I love to see the Temple, a jean quilt from Oma, and a space floor puzzle.

He also got this awesome "thinker" game from Rayola and a fun candy cane/chocolate bar sled from Grandma. (That thing lasted forever, by the way).

Devry also received her own jean quilt from Oma and a kitty pillow pet from Aunt Jen and Uncle Matt.

Pierscen received his heart's desire and got his marble track from Santa. He also got some geometric shapes/cards and some other fun learning stuff. And a pillow pet. :)

Devry got some fun hands on toys, a purse, a temple picture like Pierscen's some headbands, and a handful of other things.

We did a small breakfast since church was at 9 and headed out the door. I couldn't get any great pictures of these two together, but they sure looked nice! Thank you a million Rayola!

Church was wonderful. And since it was actual Christmas day, it was only just over an hour long. Lots of beautiful music and incredible peaceful feelings. So thankful for our Lord and Savior!

For lunch we did our traditional Christmas morning breakfast of Aebelskivers, sausage and eggs. Yum yum yum! My family always grew up putting apple slices in the pancakes - since that's what they are called - little apple pancakes, but I have learned that my kids don't really like the apples. I also did some with raspberries and some with Nutella which both got snarfed down. Well, I guess we can always tweak the tradition to make it truly our own.

After lunch we usually try to have quiet time. Pierscen typically fights it tooth and nail. We don't make him nap or anything, but he is just supposed to stay in his room and play, look and books, whatever while we rest. However, there was ZERO complaint about quiet time that day! In fact, he was begging for it! He played with his marble track for HOURS!

He even got super creative and pulled out his train tracks and created loading docks for the trains where they would roll by and a marble would drop onto the train to take to the next station. I love watching this boy's mind work!

I got Devry's stroller all assembled, which was not easy, mind you. But it was totally worth it. She was in heaven!

Dinner was brand new for us and it was amazing. Ryan made us Roladin. It is thin steak with bacon, pickles and mustard rolled into it, then seared and simmered in beef broth. I found it a little surprising because Ryan doesn't really like pickles. Or mustard. But he said this was one of his German favorites. He also made Knodel and... I was going to guess at the spelling but I can't, so red sour krout with apples. The whole dinner was absolutely incredible. Thank you Ryan!

It was a 99% perfect day... other than Devry had an ear ache. It was pretty heart breaking. She kept grabbing her ear and crying. I was preparing to take her in to the doctor if it wasn't better by the next morning, but we never did have to take her in. I think I tried warm olive oil and maybe some other home remedy I looked up. No idea if it helped, but she slept well and we avoided the doc. Christmas miracles.

Merry Christmas! Our Savior Lives! He is the Reason for the Season!
